Thank you to BING Social Search for sponsoring my post about social media. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.
How social media has changed your life in significant ways? Maybe the real question should be how hasn’t it changed? Love it or hate it, social media is a phenomenon. It connects people that may not otherwise be connected, helps friends and family stay in touch no matter how many miles apart they are and links people to the outside world. Here’s an example. I’m a work at home mom of three kids. Since I work at home and my kids are all pretty little, I don’t get out much. One night a few weeks ago I actually got out of the house and attended a girls night hosted by a local coffee shop. I ran into several people that I hadn’t seen in ages, one as far back as high school. Yet, I knew what they had been up to because I’m friends with them on Facebook. Instead of asking “What have you been up to all these years?” I asked “How was your trip to Silverwood Theme Park last week?” and “How are your girls?” which I never even knew existed prior to Facebook. While we are friends on Facebook, we had never even interacted beyond adding each other as friends. Strange but true. Following your friends on Facebook and/or Twitter has that effect. You’ll know way more about your friends and acquaintances than you probably ever would in “real” life. This is particularly true for the folks that update their status incessantly, “Had Cheerios for breakfast.” “Just got back from walking the dog.” “Headed to the gym.” “Awesome workout!” On the other hand it’s nice to feel a connection to people, especially your real life friends with whom you just haven’t had time to connect with in a more meaningful manner. Life is busy. Social Media helps.
Has social media changed your life? How so? We’d love to hear!
I use social media every day! I hope you’ll stop by and check out my article!
