Tell me about when my child learns colors.

Question: When should children learn colors?
Answer: There is such a wide range of ages that children learn colors. I’ve seen some kids as young as 18 months being able to identify a few colors and maybe even name 1 color. Other children may not know their colors solidly until they’re 4 years old. Children who are not in pre-school may have less exposure to learning colors which will delay when they obtain this skill.
One way to help your child learn their colors is to have a color of the week. For example during ‘blue week’ have only blue crayons and blue paper for them, point out familiar objects that are blue, let them wear blue clothing, etc.
My daughter has picked up her colors so quickly within the past few months. She knows all of the main ones except black and brown so far. I’m glad to know that she is in the range from reading this articdle!
