It’s no wonder that according to a recent Savvy Parents Survey from Evenflo that 66% of moms said that the thing that surprised them the most about becoming a new parent is how exhausting it is. Parenting is an around the clock job that can be a shock at first. You’ll get used to it. The important thing to remember is to squeeze in some down time and connect with your significant other, no matter how tired you are. Your relationship is important to your success as a family and it needs to be nurtured. While it may only be thirty seconds, just like in this video, it still makes a difference! Give your husband a long hug before he goes off to work in the morning. Hold hands in the car while out running errands. Just relish the little moments because that may be all you’ll have for awhile!
For us, going out to a movie is a big deal. It’s not often we leave our three kids but we’ve found that a movie date night once a month or so works great for us. We leave after we put the kids to bed and my high school aged sister in law is in charge in case the kids wake up. We get to feel like adults for a couple of hours and still make it home at a reasonable hour– because tomorrow is a new day and it starts all over again. Baths, diapers, feedings, naps, temper tantrums, crying, giggles, smiling, hugs, kisses– We wouldn’t have it any other way. I know we’ll look back and wonder where the time went and how our kids grew up so fast. While we look forward to the future, we also appreciate the current stage of our lives.
How do you savor the little moments in your life?
