Most of us know Master Lock as a trusted manufacturer of padlocks and security related items but they also make a vehicle back-up camera. According to research conducted by Kids and Cars (an organization devoted to preventing non-traffic motor vehicle related deaths and injuries to children) 49 percent of the non-traffic, non-crash fatalities involving children under 15 from 2001-2005 were caused by vehicles backing up. And according to the Centers for Disease Control, from 2001-2003, an estimated 7,475 children under the age of 15 were treated for automobile back-over accidents. Those are scary statistics and Master Lock wants to help combat the problem with it’s Plug ‘n Go Back-up Camera.Master Lock sent me one to review and since we live in a residential area with lots of children, I was thrilled with the opportunity. We recently installed a second convertible carseat into my Xterra and with it rear facing, it makes it more difficult for me to see while backing up. I’m always worried that I won’t see one of the neighbor children when I am trying to back out of our driveway.
The Plug ‘n Go Back-up Camera is as simple as it sounds. It fits almost any vehicle that has a standard 1.25 or 2 inch trailer tube. It plugs into existing trailer wiring and is held in place by a very strong magnet. The screen plugs into the car lighter and can be placed on the dash or vent, or attached to the windshield.
While the Plug ‘n Go Back-up Camera is perfect for backing out of driveways and ensuring the safety of children at play, it is also great for assistance in attaching a trailer and towing. We bought at ATV last summer and we’d like to get a 5th wheel for camping at some point. This camera is sure to come in handy while towing or attaching various “toys”. The magnetic mount allows you to attach the camera where you need it and the 90 degree swivel further assists to give you visibility exactly where you need it.
The Master Lock Plug’n go Back-Up Camera unit sells for an MSRP of $199.99. Please visit www.masterlock.com for more information.
