My kids have been loving all of the free apps I’ve been downloading for them recently. I love the books because it keeps them busy and entertained but isn’t some mindless game which I always tell them will turn their brain to mush. The latest freebie is Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, a short story in The Jungle Book (1894) by Rudyard Kipling about the adventures of a young mongoose. Like some of the other books, the illustrations come to life and respond to your hand gestures as you turn the pages. Tilt the iPad and tap on the screen to animate it and get objects to move. Books sure have come a long way from when I was little! While I still find the importance of good old fashioned hard copies, I can appreciate the new technology and find value in digital books as well. You can download your copy of Rikki-Tikki-Tave for free here on iTunes.
