When I was offered the opportunity to review a Soft Talking Madeline Doll and the classic story book I jumped at the chance. I have a red haired daughter who’s almost one that I couldn’t wait to introduce to Madeline (who also has red hair). The smile that lit up her face when I gave her the doll melted my heart. Every time Madeline talks, McKinley smiles. And to be honest, my two year old son kept taking the doll from her and running off with it. He wasn’t even doing it to pick on his sister- he just wanted to play with it! He also really enjoyed the story but for some reason he thought some of the pictures were scary. I have no idea why. He wasn’t actually afraid, he just pointed to the pictures and said “scary”….the mind of a two year old.
With over 10 years working with children plus another 2 and half being a mom, I don’t know how I hadn’t read Madeline. I knew who she was- sort of. I had no idea that the original story is 70 years old and that it is about a little girl having her appendix out. Now I know!
The Soft Talking Madeline Doll is 17″ tall and says 4 phrases in French and 4 phrases English. Her accent is adorable when she says she is tired. She really is soft (as in squishy) and her “talk” buttons in each of her hands are very easily located and activated. I have a feeling this doll will soon be come a favorite- of both of my kids!
