Since my daughter just turned 3, we are at the point where traditions are beginning. As part of Twitter Moms and Doral Christmas Carol contest, I’m sharing 5 of my favorite holiday activities that I did growing up and that I am passing onto my children. Christmas is already becoming a more exciting time for us this year!
1. Baking cookies! How can you go without Christmas cookies? Santa needs some, of course! Holly and I made them in Texas 2 years ago (wow, has it been 2 years already!!) and they turned out mighty perfect if I say so myself! My daughter was only 1 and her son was 6 months, so it was definitely easier than having a house full of kids. We had such a great time! I do this every year. I have already practiced with my daughter. Unfortunately, she lost interest pretty early, but it was still fun.
2. Decorating the tree and house. I am a Christmas NUT! I LOVE to decorate the house and the tree. After every Christmas when the sales start, I purchase new items for the next year. My daughter helped me this year (as much as she could) and it was so nice!
3. Building a Gingerbread House. This was our first year for doing this, but it’s something I think will be more fun next year as she will understand it more. She had a blast this year as I did, but she was more excited about the candy which I can’t blame her.
4. Making noodles. Yes, this sounds weird, but I grew up with Chicken and Noodles on the holidays that my grandma made from scratch. It is something I Have always looked forward to and still do. I can’t wait to teach my daughter how to make them and know that she’ll love them as much as I do.
5. Going to church for the children’s mass. It is such a joyous time. All of the children gather at the alter to listen to the priest for his sermon. It is so cute how they listen so hard to what he has to say and there are so many of them gathered. They are all dressed up and adorable. This will be my daughter’s first year, so I can’t wait to see her go.
