Review & Giveaway: Peter Walsh’s It’s All Too Much Book & DVD

You might be familiar with Peter Walsh from TLC’s Clean Sweep- a show that has helped thousands of people declutter and organize their homes and lives. An interesting path led him from Australia to the US and to the “decluttering and organization guy” he is known as today. He has just released a DVD to help people everywhere learn to live full lives without drowning in their stuff. I had the opportunity to review the DVD and thought it had some great pointers.

As a busy mom of a family of four, clutter is part of our lives as much as I try to keep it under control.. My hubby cannot stand clutter. It drives him bonkers. That alone motivates me to attempt to keep the clutter to a minimum but Peter’s tips inspired me even more. In the DVD Peter, who has a charming Australian accent, takes you room by room and shows you how to clear space, define areas and organize your space.

My kitchen is a lost cause but Peter’s tip to keep only things you use often within a triangle (from the sink to the fridge, to the stove) makes a lot of sense. You don’t need to keep things like flower vases within this zone.

One area I’d personally like to focus on is photo organization and Peter’s simple tips in that area are ones I will probably use. Peter has a lot of really great solutions to many common problems. I really enjoyed the DVD but it had one critical downfall. The DVD is organized room by room but there is no menu to access these areas individually. As I mentioned, there’s no hope for my kitchen until we can get it remodeled so I would have liked to skip this area and jump to the next one. I was disappointed with the lack of a menu feature. Aside from that, I got a lot from the DVD. Many things I will be implementing into our family life to keep our home free of clutter (or at least reduce it). If you need some help and some inspiration to declutter your life, Peter is the man to help you!
