Do you ever have a hard time getting to sleep at night? Sometimes I have so many thoughts running through my brain that I find it diffucult to wind down and drift off to sleep. ZzzQuil, by the makes of Vicks NyQuil offers a solutuion for occasional sleeplessness. Similar to NyQuil but not for colds or pain, ZzzQuil's active ingredient is diphenhydramine HCI which can help reduce the time it takes for you to fall asleep, help you sleep more soundly, and ultimately wake up feeling refreshed.
It's available over-the-counter it two forms: Liquid (Warming Berry flavor) and LiquiCap®. They sent me the liquid version of their non-habit forming sleep aid designed for adults and children 12+.
Typically I avoid liquid versions of anything because I prefer to forgo the taste by swallowing a pill. I was prepared for an awful taste but it surprisingly wasn't bad! It goes down pretty smooth with a slightly warming berry flavor. Both times I tried it I drifted off to sleep quickly and slept soundly through the entire night, pretty much without moving. The bed was practically still made in the morning!
I didn't have any trouble waking up and getting out of bed however I still felt a little out of it. It's a little hard to explain since I didn't really feel TIRED — I just felt like I could easily go back to sleep again. Personally, I didn't really like the feeling but I was still happy I got a good night's rest.
I took the full dosage but wonder now if a half dose might be better a better fit for me. I think it might be enough to help me get to sleep but have a bit of a better morning.
One thing I should mention, especially if you have children, is the cap. While it's supposed to be a child safty cap (I think), it's not hard to open at all. Rather than a push down and turn style, it's a squeeze and turn style. Just twisting the cap, the sides automatically squeeze so if it's in the right position, it's opened without any effort — not safe for kids in my opinion!
The liquid is purple which makes it appealing for kids and it has a little picture of a moon on it which may get their attention. It's always best to keep things like this out of reach of children.
