We bought a new house last December and one of the things it was “missing” according to my husband was a theater room. He was sad to leave behind the one we had put together at our old house but we both knew it was only a matter of time before we’d find a place to make one work at our new house. We have the space to add on so we’ve been holding off thinking we’d go all out. Recently we made the decision to wait and just make use of the space we already have. The hubs and I have different ideas of what’s important in a theater room. My only requirement is that the LoveSac stays. My kids and I love snuggling on it and we all fit! The picture above is of my girls on the Lovesac during a recent movie night. My son is also on it, but outside of the picture. Beyond that, the hubby can go to town!
We already have some home theater equipment that we brought over with us from the old house like the projector and screen. It’s a few years old though and we’re considering an upgrade to a 3D projector. Our stereo equipment could use some updating too. My husband has his eye on a Klipsch Home Theater package from audiogurus.com and some leather reclining theater seats complete with cup holders and ambient lighting. In the meantime, we’ve installed blackout blinds on the windows and are waiting for the skylight blinds to be delivered. A little paint, some movie posters, a personalized sign and our popcorn cart and we’ll be ready for the big premiere!
I’ve taken my kids to the movies and have yet to have an enjoyable experience. They don’t want to sit still or be quiet, they all need to use the bathroom at different times and things really start to fall apart once the jumbo popcorn has been demolished. Having a theater room at home really is the way to go for our family. Watching movies is relaxing and fun like it should be, not the stressful chore an outing to the movies has become. No more smuggling in bottled water, $12 buckets of popcorn or missing half the movie wrangling kids. We’re happy to stay home where it’s comfortable and the pause button is always within reach!
How do you make family movie nights special? Do you eat special treats? Make it into a pajama party? Or have theme nights? I’d love to hear how other family’s enjoy movies together. Feel free to leave a comment!
