If seatbelt laws are nationwide, whey aren’t motorcycle helmet laws? Wouldn’t this fit under the same category? One might argue that it’s an individuals right and choice whether or not they want to protect themselves but the same could be said about seat belts.
Personally, I’m pro seat belt and helmet law because as a mother, it makes it easier for me to protect my children and teach them good safety habits. It’s hard for them to argue when it’s the law. I live in Washington state, one of only 19 states that hold a universal helmet law for motorcyclists. Amazingly, there are 3 states that hold no law at all regarding helmets. Luckily, Washington state also requires that cyclists wear helmets too, something we’ve been enforcing with our kids since an early age. They don’t know any different but I remember the days before bicycle helmets and I’m relieved that my kids are better protected.
What state do you live in? What do you think about the motorcycle helmet laws?
