I’ve slowly been painting and decorating areas of our home since we moved in last December. My son’s room got a complete makeover with paint, new bedding and curtains. My youngest just got hers done with paint, some organizational items and a new curtain. My oldest daughter also got new bedding and a curtain awhile back but was really disappointed that I didn’t paint her room. She has the biggest room of the three of them (a master), much larger than I wanted to paint. Plus, I knew she’d want pink and I just couldn’t bring myself to slather such a large area in this sickly sweet color. Luckily we came to a great compromise when I found this adorable picture by Phyllis Harris Designs.
As soon as I saw “The Love of a Girl and Her Horse” I knew it would be perfect for McKinley’s room. The color of the little girl’s dress in the picture is pretty and inspired me. We decided an accent wall would look great, especially with this framed piece of art hanging on it!
We’re going with Behr’s Foxy Pink for the wall that her bed is on and we’ll be hanging the artwork over the bed. I really wanted to have this project done by now but my kiddos have been sick and I haven’t had a chance to tackle it yet. The color we chose is a pretty close match to the girl’s dress and I can’t wait to see how it looks when it all comes together.
Normally I have a really hard time picking out art because I want it to be something I really love. Something that makes me feel good. In this case, not only did I know that it would make my daughter happy but I felt something when I first laid eyes on it. It was like instant happiness. I actually really love all of Phyllis Harris’s illustrations. I follow Phyllis on Instagram for daily pick-me-ups but there are two other images that touch my heart:
Golden Retriever and Little Girl on a Tricycle
The little girl could be me or my youngest daughter. I’ve never had a golden retriever but I always wanted one. Something about this picture just evokes an emotion I can’t really describe, but I like it! Happy childhood days — a ride with your best friend — how can you not smile at that?
And then there’s the little girl who loves blowing dandelions. Most kids love to do this but if you’re a mom of a little girl, this picture will likely instantly remind you of your own.
Phyllis Harris believes her God-given gift is in creating children’s art that is whimsical and nostalgic; an illustrative style that captures the innocence and hope of childhood. Her hope is that her art will brighten the walls of your child’s room or nursery; and bring a smile and joy to your hearts for many years to come.
Her work comes in different sizes and is even customizable! I’m not sure how I missed that prior to receiving my piece — I would have loved to have the illustrated girl to have red hair like my own daughter to make it even more special. The prices are really reasonable. I was even able to frame the piece on my own for less than $20 which included the frame and matting from Walmart. Hobby Lobby and Michaels are also great places to look for frames for a good price.
Archival inks and a wonderful archival museum quality fine art paper (both of which are tested and guaranteed smudge, scratch, water, and fade resistant) are used and
I love how this one is framed but didn’t really match the style of McKinley’s room:
