I married a sports fanatic. He warned me before we were married not to expect too much out of him during football season. When we found out we were having a boy for our first child I imagined it wouldn’t be long before there were two sports fanatics in the house. It took a little longer than I expected but practically overnight our six year old went from sort of liking sports to being obsessed with sports.
Since the age of 3 he’s been playing sports starting with soccer, then t-ball, basketball and this past fall, flag football. He enjoyed it for the most part a lot of the time just wasn’t that into it. Then, seemingly out of nowhere he was not only interested in playing, he was interested in watching sporting events on t.v. It really helped that we live in the Seattle area — Go Seahawks! But even now, the first thing he says to me every morning is “Did the Mariners win?” He gets mad that he has to go to bed before the game is over and it’s my job to let him know not only if the Mariners won but what the score was, usually before I’m even out of bed. Even better if I can tell him who made the plays.
He relates literally everything to sports. Let’s say the clock says 3:25 pm. He’ll say “Hey, Mommy! It’s 3 Richard Sherman!” (Richard Sherman is #25). On the 24th of the month he say “It’s Marshawn Lynch day!” referring to Lynch’s #24 jersey. He has decided he dislikes orange and red — Broncos and 49er colors. It’s crazy but we get a kick out of it!
Jackson’s 7th birthday is coming up and all he wants is to take a friend to the Mariners game. Sounds like fun to us, especially when we can save big on tickets at ScoreBig.com.
