Like most children, my kids love dipping things. It’s a great way to get them to eat foods they normally wouldn’t try. I have to admit, I like dipping things too. One of my favorite restaurants is The Melting Pot where every course is a fondue experience. I thought it would be fun to introduce my girls to fondue for lunch today. Since I didn’t really plan ahead, I had to use things we had on hand. I made up a plate of sliced apples, baby carrots, pretzels and chunks of bread. I heated up a pouch of Emmi Roth Original Cheese Fondue then put it in little bowls for each of the girls. I don’t have a fondue pot so we had to make due. I game them wooden skewers to use as their dipping “forks”. It was a huge hit. At first my 3 year old cried and threw a fit when I told her we were having fondue for lunch. When I told her it was a treat, she quickly changed her tune.
I couldn’t resist joining them for lunch and it was delicious. In fact, to quote my five her old when I asked her if it was good she said “It’s more than good, it’s delicious!” I love how easy it was to make. I literally just heated it in a pan on the stove. I didn’t have to add anything. It would have been even better if I had a fondue pot because the cheese gets a little stringy as it starts to cool. This melty goodness will not soon be forgotten. I’m sure I’ll be taking a few requests for fondue in the future. My husband was a little disappointed that we tried it without him so I think a repeat is in order, perhaps with a little better planning and more dipping variety.
