It’s no secret that Paula’s Choice is my favorite skincare brand. I’ve been pretty loyal to Paula’s Choice and certain products for more than a decade. I love trying out some of their new products because I know that even if they aren’t quite right for me, they’re still well formulated and will work perfectly for someone else. I was excited to try some of the new sun care and sunless tanning products and as expected, I was not disappointed. My kids have sensitive skin, especially my oldest daughter who is particularly sensitive to sunscreen so I was hoping that Paula’s Choice would have a sunscreen that would work well for her. Below are some of the products I tried.
SUN 365 Self-Tanning Foam — Everyone knows that getting a suntan is damaging to your skin and can lead to some pretty serious health issues. Still, most people associate a golden tan with a healthy lifestyle. Even though we know the effects of the sun we still crave that healthy glow. Luckily, self tanners have come a long way and can now deliver an authentic looking tan without a fake orange look. Paula’s Choice Self Tanning Foam is one of my favorites. The lightly tinted foam goes on easily so you apply it evenly. It’s fast drying too so you can get dressed or go to bed within 5 minutes without staining any fabrics. The color is buildable so you can get a natural-looking tan in the depth that’s right for you. Just exfoliate in the shower, apply a light layer of moisturizer then apply the tanner. Repeat the following day to increase the depth of color or apply ever few days to maintain it. Unlike many other tanners, this one is fragrance-free and specially formulated to minimize or eliminate the telltale self-tanner odor.
Sheer Cream Lipstick SPF 15 — I love lipsticks and lip glosses but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Paula’s Choice Sheer Cream Lipsticks. The colors are really flattering and work with a wide variety of skin colors and tones. They are moisturizing, have an SPF 15 to protect lips from the sun and a shimmery color that highlights your lip’s natural beauty. I LOVE all 3 of the colors I’ve tried — Sherbet, In the Nude and See-Through Mauve. They glide on smooth and feel light yet wear well for hours. There is also an Invisible version that works great with lipliners or alone as a protective moisturizer.
Moisture Boost Moisturizer SPF 30 — This is the sunscreen that worked best for McKinley’s dry, sensitive skin. It’s light yet substantially moisturizing. The only problem is that I believe it’s made for use mainly in the facial area so it only comes in a 2 oz bottle. The description says that it “provides cushiony layer of moisture that leaves your skin satin-smooth and perfectly prepped for makeup. A blend of potent antioxidants boosts your skin’s defenses and helps protect it from collagen depletion.” It’s safe for use around the eyes and is 100% fragrance and colorant free. It’s made for those with normal to dry skin (even if it’s prone to breaking out).
Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion — This is another one that works great for McKinley but is also designed for the facial area It replenishes dry, sensitive skin and ensures a healthy barrier function while protecting from daily sun damage (the cause of wrinkles and brown spots) with gentle mineral sunscreens. Loaded with potent antioxidants, skin-identical ceramides and cell-communicating peptides to restore and help maintain healthy, radiant skin that looks and acts younger. Ideal for those with rosacea and specially designed to be worn under makeup.
Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense — This one is my favorite! It’s designed for combination to oily skin so it isn’t greasy or ultra moisturizing. It’s lightweight and it’s lightly tinted which helps even out my skin tone. It’s formulated with potent antioxidants that stimulate collagen production for firmer skin. I find that with this sunscreen, my skin stays more matte and less oily which is the opposite of most sunscreens I’ve tried on my face. Makeup can be applied smoothly and evenly right over the top. I skip the foundation when I use this and just use a mineral powder to complete the matte finish. Pure, refined zinc oxide provides broad-spectrum protection without making skin more oily or triggering breakouts. It is perfect for sensitive skin or rosacea and great for use around the eye area.
