Ooooh boy! When the sun comes out I can see the dirt a lot better! Our house is filled with skylights and lots of windows. One room even has floor to ceiling windows so once those grey skies finally depart and the sun starts shining in, spring cleaning fever hits! Cobwebs in corners, dust on window sills and general everyday dirt are suddenly much more visible. I have three must-have products to help me tackle the chore of spring cleaning:
The first is a multi-purpose cleaner that I use for almost every hard surface in my home including windows, floors (wood), countertops and tubs/toilets. I’ve been a huge fan of cleaning with vinegar since my first baby was born. I wanted a chemical free way to clean that was still powerful enough for a deep down clean. I recently discovered a way to make my vinegar solution even more powerful and better smelling at the same time! Instead of my plain 50/50 vinegar and water solution, I just add 10 drops of or . The lemon is great at cutting grease and the Thieves is awesome for mold and mildew plus it’s good for immune system support making it an excellent choice when germs are going around.
My second cleaning weapon is a carpet spot remover. I really only have one room that’s carpeted and that’s my living room. Our stairs and master bedroom are carpeted too but generally not problem areas for stains. This cleaner is excellent for upholstered floors in your CAR and works on furniture too! Here’s how to mix some up:
Using a dark colored bottle (sunlight breaks down the cleaner making it ineffective) mix 1/3 hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 water. Add 5 drops of and shake lightly to combine.
The peroxide will help break down the stain and the lemon oil will loosen any sticky particles. Spray the carpet’s problem areas and let sit for a minute or two. Use a scrub brush to loosen the fibers and bring dirt/etc. to the surface. Using a rag, wipe the carpet and blot out the liquid. Repeat as necessary.
Spot test first because this cleaner MAY lighten some surfaces. Dilute with more water if this is a problem.
Last but not least, every spring cleaning marathon needs a good vacuum cleaner. I must say I am pretty impressed with this vacuum. We have four beautiful furry babies that are constantly tracking in dirt. They get baths twice a week and I shampoo my carpet once a week. Even though I have four pitt bulls I don’t want my house smelling like dogs. After they get their baths I put a lil lavender oil mixed with water and I spray it on their fur. The thing I love about this blog is that you use natural remedies to clean your house. I am very firm believer on using natural products. Great review I’m definitely going to try your method for getting out stains. That would definitely save me money. Natural store bought carpet cleaner is pretty pricey.
