Like most kids, my kids enjoy playing games on electronic devices. I aim for educational games most of the time but I also recently discovered a game that creates a real world impact when the kids play it! The game is called Tree Story and it was created by former Disney Interactive artists and game designers. Players grow cute “virtual pet” trees and then Zig Zag Zoom plants REAL tress with the help of it’s partners:
- The U.S. Forest Service
- The Nature Conservancy
- ACTrees (an organization representing over 350 local tree planting organizations)
- Arbor Day Foundation
When you begin, you get to select a campaign and choose where your tree will be planted. We chose Jimi Hendrix Park, a local park that we can visit in the future.
The game itself is pretty cute. You care for your tree by feeding it, playing games with it and more. You earn coins and can spend them on different items for your tree. There are multiple ways to earn coins. You can purchase them too which contributes to planting trees in real life. Every ad you view within the game also contributes to the cause. I didn’t notice any inappropriate ads and I doubt there would be any since it’s a kids app. If you are concerned though or just don’t want view ads you can download the no ads version of the app for an introductory price of $0.99. Otherwise the app is completely free to play!
