Birds Eye vegetables and the Environmental Media Association have recently teamed up for the #GreenMySchool program. This program brings celebrities back to their hometowns to plant vegetable gardens with students and teach the importance of vegetable nutrition. This is a such a great way to get kids interested in eating more vegetables! Both Birds Eye and the celebrities involved are dedicated to spreading the message that vegetables should be a fundamental part of everyday meals. It’s their goal to inspire kids and families to incorporate more veggies into their diets.
Thanks to Birds Eye, vegetables don’t have to be fresh in season to be enjoyed. For nearly 100 years, Birds Eye has been helping families get in their veggies with a wide variety of frozen vegetables which are convenient to buy, easier to store and quicker to prepare. We all know that veggies are good for us but almost no one gets enough of them. When we get enough veggies in our diets, good things can happen — less obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Eating more vegetables and less meat also helps farmers feed more people using less land, water and energy. Less chemicals are needed and fewer greenhouse gasses are released. Who know how powerful veggies can be?!
The Environmental Media Association believes that the entertainment community has the power to influence environmental awareness. That’s why they call on the help of celebrities to educate people and inspire them to take action.
Constance Zimmer, star of Lifetime’s UnREAL, well known for her roles on Boston Legal, Entourage and House of Cards, recently joined the campaign with a garden in Santa Ana, CA at the Heritage Museum of Orange County which hosts educational activities for students from schools around the community.
Birds Eye and the celebrities in the program are proud to help spread the message that vegetables should be a fundamental part of everyday meals.
Did You Know?
- Birds Eye vegetables are grown on family farms, some of which have been harvesting for Birds Eye going back multiple generations.
- Birds Eye veggies ripen in the field, allowing them to reach maximum nutritional value before they are harvested.
- Birds Eye vegetables are flash frozen within 6 hours of harvest, locking in nutrients. That means that frozen veggies are just as nutritious as fresh!
- Only 28% of American’s dinners include vegetables and nine out of 10 children do not eat the recommended daily amount of vegetables.
By educating children about the variety, taste and ease of veggies, Birds Eye is working to turn that around. You can find more information about the process, the products and Birds Eye recipes at www.BirdsEye.com.
