I’ve always loved arts and crafts and it’s fun to see my kids enjoying them too. My oldest daughter is especially artistic but even my son likes getting in on the crafting. We were really excited to try the new 3D Magic Pen. It’s a whole new level of crafting and we are loving the doors that technology is opening for us! With the 3D Magic Pen we can create 3 dimensional objects unlike anything else we’ve ever created.
The 3D Magic Pen comes with 3 colors of filament. Packs of fifteen color filaments or individual color rolls are available for purchase separately. We got a pack of these too and having more colors to work with is definitely more fun! This tool is surprisingly easy to use. Just turn it on, wait for it to warm up the load the filament with the touch of a button. When you are ready and the pen has reached the correct temperature, just push the button to start creating. It has a self feeding motor and the speed can be adjusted with the sliding button on the side of the pen.
My youngest asked me to make a Pikachu. This was my first attempt making something with the 3D Magic Pen. Not bad for my first try! I didn’t practice and just went for it not really knowing how exactly things worked. The non-toxic fillament cools and hardens almost immediately so you have to work fast or in small bursts. I was worried about it being to hot and the kids getting burned but it’s really a non-issue. This toy is pretty safe.
My son requested a Seahawk next. This was more difficult because of the design even though it was more flat than anything. I drew it out on paper first and worked over that. Again, not bad for a newbie! I was surprised at how quickly you can learn to use this tool.
Next I made a butterfly. At this point I was getting a little rushed because it was time for me to make dinner. I wasn’t pleased with the way I made the lower wings. I’m thinking about cutting this part off and starting over.
Building and creating possibilities are endless – doodles and dinosaurs, towers, dragons and trolls – there is no limit to what can be built with the 3D Magic Pen. I can’t wait to see what my kids com up with on their own now that I’m confident that letting them use it will be safe.
