The Clickfree Traveler is a backup storage device that is the size of a credit card with a swing out USB plug. It is designed to work automatically upon connection to your Mac or PC. They say, “It’s easier than making toast!” and it is….unless you are me. I have this old rickety laptop that has been sitting my my closet since I got my new spiffy Mac. My old computer has hundreds of pictures of my son from his first year of life and wedding pictures I’d like to keep safe. When I say rickety, I mean, it is falling apart. The screen will not stay up unless it is held up and the A/C power adapter only works when plugged in just right. Of course, it has no battery life to speak of therefore, it must be plugged in to function at all.
When I got the opportunity to review a Clickfree Traveler I was thrilled because it works with both Mac and PC. I could remove photos from the PC and access them from my Mac. Then I would be able throw the old hunk of junk PC into the garbage where it belongs.
Being me, I ran into problems right away. I could not for the life of me remember my password to even log on to the old computer. The password clue was no help whatsoever. It took me half the day before I finally figured it out. Of course when my hubby came home and I started to tell him the story, he blurted out the password before I could even finish my sentence- figures. My memory stinks.
Once I got past that dilemma, I plugged the Clickfree Traveler into the back of the old lappy and after a couple of minutes it started backing up my files. I must have had a lot to back up because my arm was getting tired of holding up my screen and I accidentally let it slam shut. I groaned thinking I would have to start all over but when I plugged it in again, it started right where it left off! Phew!
Once it was finished, I plugged it into my Mac. Unfortunately, since I only had the 16 GB version, I received a message that I had 0 GB left and I wasn’t able to back up my current files from my Mac. I was happy to be able to access all of my old photos from it though! I loved showing my thr
Aside from wishing I had the 64 GB version (it comes in 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB), the only thing I didn’t like about the Clickfree Traveler was the swing out USB arm. While I like the idea behind it, the arm is very flimsy. I think it was actually designed this way- to be flexible, but it seems rather delicate and breakable to me.
See, if you aren’t me, backing up your files with Clickfree Traveler really is easier than making toast!
