My oldest daughter loves learning about people. I love giving her books about inspiring women to empower her. She’s already strong willed and has plenty of determination but reinforcement couldn’t hurt! Barron’s Books has some awesome selections that do just that!
The first book, Girls Can Do Anything by Caryl Hart, illustrated by Ali Pye is a simple picture book designed for ages 4-7. The main message is that girls can do or be anything they want to be! Girls can have short hair or long, wear pants or dresses, play sports or do crafts and that whoever they are, they should be proud to be a girl, just as they are!
“Give that special girl in your life wings to fly with this enchanting book that’s all about the things girls can do. Whether she dreams of being a vet who heals people’s pets, a firefighter who braves the flames, an astronaut floating in deep, dark space, or a fearless jungle explorer, there’s nothing a girl can’t do! One size does not fit all: girls are scruffy or fancy, neat or messy, and everything in between, because each girl is unique and unlike all others. Empower young girls everywhere and let them know that being told “you’re such a girl” is the greatest compliment of all!”
Next is a series of “Brilliant Women” books including “Amazing Artists and Designers”, “Pioneers of Science and Technology”, “Incredible Sporting Champions”, and “Heroic Leaders and Activists”. Each book features several women and tells their story of how they made changes and raised expectations for women. Each story comes with an activity that nurtures a child’s skills and inspires them to pursue a goal or aspiration. These books were designed for a little bit older kids — 9 and up — so they are perfect for my 9 year old daughter! She LOVES to read about people and then tell me all about their achievements and who they were. I love that these books are ALL about inspiring women in all different areas of interest!

I love these types of books that can show kids that they can be someone and do “hard things”. I love reading them myself!! I hope I win so I can read these to my niece. 🙂
