My kids have recently starting enjoying card games. It’s something fun they can do together and a good way to keep them off screens. A new card game called MYnd Kraft just launched today and we got a chance to check out out early. The game was inspired by basic programming concepts so kids learn some basic coding skills in a fun way. There are seven different games that can be played with just one deck of cards.
Originally I just handed my kids the cards and instructions and told them to go play. My oldest (age 11) flipped through the instructions but didn’t understand the directions. When I got the chance to take a look we figured it out together. The game is simple and reminds me a bit of Uno but like most games, it’s easier to learn from someone that has played before. I think it would be helpful if the website had a short video clip of the game in action, just to be sure we are playing it correctly.
There are number cards in numbers 1-7 and an asterisk card (*) that acts as a wild card that can be used as any number. The number cards come in different colors, meaning for example, that the “3” card could be red, yellow, green or blue.
There’s also a set of action cards. These cards tell you which cards to play. Some of these are as simple as playing a certain colored card. Others involve simple math concepts that you have to solve to determine which card or combination of cards to play. You get to keep all the cards you “solve” or play and these will determine your score at the end of the game using the scoring system at the corner of the card (1 star =1 point, 2 stars= 2 points and 3 stars= 3 points).
This game is called EZY CODR and is designed for ages 7 and up. There are a couple of games at this age and a few more for age 11 and up that are a little harder. I like that this deck of cards offers options. If they get bored with one game, they can play another! I also like that the game inspires strategic thinking and engages their problem solving skills. This versatile game is a great family game but once they learn it, can also be played with friends and siblings without an adult.
The game just launched today, Monday August 27 with the early bird special price of $17 (expires August 29). After that, get the Kickstarter special price of $19. Order yours today!
