Another month, another fun Gramma in a Box. Every month my kids look forward to getting this subscription box in the mail. They’ve really got Gramma figured out now and know exactly when it will arrive. Both of my girls came home from school on the day it arrived and asked “Where’s the Gramma in a Box?” I’m not sure how they knew but they were right!
So, what is Gramma in a Box you ask? It’s a subscription service that comes with everything you need to make 2 candy crafts plus one cookie decorating kit for just $20. It’s a pretty great deal considering the cost of the supplies to make these items plus the time it would take to gather them.
My youngest daughter was at basketball practice so my older daughter got this Gramma in a Box all to herself. My other daughter did get to enjoy the finished products when she got home though so her disappointment was short lived.
This month’s box was Thanksgiving/Fall themed and the first project was Turkey Buddies. You start by heating the melting chocolate slowly in the microwave. Once it’s ready, coat the Ritz crackers with the chocolate, add candy corn for feathers, candy eyes and pumpkin seeds for the beak. Make sure you don’t overdo it with the melting chocolate because the leftovers are used for project number two. A couple of the Ritz were broken but only on the edge. Often my girls will just “glue” them back together with the melting chocolate. Sometimes we even have extra ingredients in our pantry that we can improvise with.
Project number two was Harvest Bark. Just spread the remaining melting chocolate onto the parchment paper in a rectangular shape and sprinkle the cereal, peanuts and remaining candy corn on top. My daughter went a little rogue on the shape of the bark this time but that’s part of the fun! You can get creative and mix things up a little.
The third project is always cookie decorating and our personal favorite. The kit contains three colors of frosting in ready to use mini tubes and several different shapes and sizes of cookies as well as a variety of colored sugar/sprinkles for decorating. My girls also like to use any leftover candies from the first two projects.
This month the kit contained yellow, orange and brown frosting with turkey, leaves, pumpkins and acorn shaped cookies. My girls like to try different techniques on the cookie decorating and always love Gramma Terry’s ideas that she posts to her Facebook and Instagram accounts. I’m surprised McKinley didn’t use any add-ons for her cookies this month, just frosting. Interesting choice!
“Gramma Terry” started making Gramma in a Box for her grandkids who live in a different state. She’d send them the kit and they’d do the projects “together” via Skype. Now she spreads the joy to anyone that wants a subscription! She comes up with themed cookies and candy crafts each month then puts together detailed instructions and bonus tips. I love that my girls can do these independently now!
The contents of each box are always very organized. The directions are easy to follow so it’s clear which ingredients go with which project. Gramma gives lots of tips for the cookie decorating and even gives video demonstrations on her social channels! My kids love trying out her techniques!
