There’s nothing like 3 snow days in a row to going a little stir crazy! My oldest daughter was begging me for activities to do by day 3 because she was bored out of her mind! She loves to cook and since we had plenty of rare free time it was the perfect opportunity to try out our Kidstir Cooking Kit!
KidStir is a monthly delivery box that inspires kids to learn to cook. It includes fun and exciting kid-friendly recipes that the whole family will enjoy along with specially selected cooking tools and creative materials.
Each kit focuses on seasonal ingredients and special occasions, teaching kids ages 5 to 12 essential kitchen skills along the way. Each box comes with three recipes. One thing I love about this subscription is that Kidstir helps parents with all the planning: You’ll receive the shopping list by email before the box arrives and grown-up notes with every recipe.
This month’s kit came with a “Terrific Turner” and a “Make-a-Heart” Ring with recipes for Honey Bear Bars, Green Eggs & Ham and Happy Heart Pancakes. We were stuck home because of the snow so we modified the Green Eggs & Ham recipe to include ingredients we had on hand.
I want my kids to be independent so learning this basic recipe for a healthy breakfast was awesome. McKinley was really proud to be able to make an omelet for her brother who LOVES breakfast foods!
I gave her a little help with the first one to make sure she got the hang of it. We used shredded Cheddar cheese and bacon crumbles and it came out perfect!
This guy was thrilled that he got a “real” breakfast instead of just cereal. Now if we could just get him to make his own instead of relying on his little sister! We can’t wait to try the other recipes from the box. I love that the Honey Bear Bars came with cute little wrappers the kids can use. They are going to love taking these in their lunchboxes and showing off their homemade creations to their friends at school. Making their own foods give them such a sense of accomplishment and makes them feel really independent!
I also love all the extra tips and ideas that are included on the 3 hole punched pages that come with the kit. There are ideas for a variety of different omelet fillings, directions on how to make a dry pancake mix staple for the pantry including a link to download a printable label, and SO much more!
