This is our first summer in Arizona. We’ve been loving seeing the sun every single day, especially being from Seattle but now that summer is here it’s a little overwhelming! It’s over 100 degrees every single day and it’s hard to stay cool while outside. Our kids play outdoor sports though so sometimes staying inside out of the heat isn’t an option.
I worry about my kids playing in the heat. We’ve stressed the importance of staying hydrated and use different drinks to help with this. We also use cooling towels. Recently we’ve also tried Cooling Cuff. Worn on the wrist, this special device was designed to alter thermoregulation, rapidly lower core body temperature and quickly restore temperature homeostasis.
The wrist is the optimal place to cool the body because the skin releases a disproportionate amount of heat there. The Cooling Cuff is a silicone band with a medical-grade cooling pack. It’s worn like a watch but in reverse. The cooling pack should be placed on the inside of the wrist to quickly cool you down, offering instant relief from heat and excessive sweating.
Available on Amazon, the Cooling Cuff comes with two bands and four cooling packs. This allows you to have backups. We’ve used these for my daughter at her softball tournaments. We keep the extra packs in the cooler and they can be switched out as needed. In the 100+ degree heat they don’t stay cold for very long but they do help to keep our girl cool! We can switch them out every inning as needed and just keep putting the used ones back in the cooler on ice. They get cold quickly so this works quite well!
Our priority is keeping our athletes performing their best but we might have to pick up a couple more Cooling Cuffs to keep our cheering section comfortable as well!
