I don’t think I’ve ever met a child that doesn’t love stuffed animals. My oldest two have outgrown them but my youngest still loves her favorite stuffed animal, whom we call “Fluffy Puppy”, at 12 years old. There’s a reason why kids are given stuffed animal during times of trauma — it’s because they offer comfort! Some children, especially those dealing with neurodivergent attributes like anxiety, ADHD, autism or sensory processing disorders could benefit from a weighted stuffed animal like FluffyWeight.
Designed under the guidance of occupational therapists, FluffyWeight was created to help ease anxiety and shorten sensory meltdowns with its weighted, snuggly cozy body and big fluffy paws that can embrace you with a calming full-body hug that has proven to be effective.
A four week experiment was conducted by neudroscientist Dr. Cindy Hovington with a focus group consisting of parents of children with anxiety or sensory challenges. They reported fewer meltdowns, smoother bedtimes and an overall improvement in easing anxiety and promoting calmness.
In my day job as a paraeducator working with children with special needs, I have seen this technique work first hand with other weighted tools like blankets vests and lap pads. I was thrilled to see a product that looks less like a tool and more like something kids would be more naturally drawn to visually.

I put my FluffyWeight puppy in the “Calm Corner” of our classroom and the kids seem to love it! I entered the class one day and saw a student laying in the cozy corner with FluffyWeight on their belly with their arms around it. It’s the perfect size for a giant hug!

Surprisingly, FluffyWeight is the first toy of its kind on the market. They are heavier than other weighted stuffed animal competitors and thus classified as therapeutically weighted. Foley, the mom designer behind FluffyWeight, worked with plush safety expert Rosie Alonso of Play it Safe Consulting from the beginning of the design process to ensure the product would be completely safe for children. FluffyWeight is lab-tested and certified to meet or exceed all US safety standards. Specifically, in compliance with US ASTM F963-17. Most weighted therapy objects are made with small plastic or glass beads, both of which can pose a choking hazard. FluffyWeight is made without plastic, has no small external parts, and its interior is double lined for safety. The filler itself is made out of latex — a natural organic compound made from rubber trees.

Choose from the yellow FluffyWeight dog weighing in at 5.5 pounds and stretching 22″ long from nose to tail, the blue FluffyWeight Cat at the same size and weight or the mini size puppy weighing 3 pounds and measuring 16.5″ from nose to back paws. All of them provide deep pressure input which has been scientifically proven to calm the nervous system.
If you have a child that has anxiety, ADHD, autism or sensory processing disorders, I highly recommend this product! You can find out more at www.fluffyweight.com.
