My favorite oil for cooking is Olive Oil. It’s one of the healthiest oils too! I love the new Bertolli spray oils because they are 100% natural. There are 3 varieties to choose from:
- Classico for mild taste
- Extra Light for delicate taste
- Extra Virgin for rich taste
The spray oils are awesome for portion control. The sprayer on these is unique and allows you to get a nice even application every time. It’s perfect for portion control too because you end up using less than if you had to pour it. Fewer calories! Yay! You can use the sprays for baking by spraying directly on your muffin tins, baking pans etc. The extra light variety is a great choice for desserts due to it’s delicate taste and high smoke point. You can also spray the oils directly on foods for a quick and healthy marinade — it helps the spices stick too! Don’t forget to spray your grill so your foods won’t stick when barbecuing!
This may sound a little odd but olive oil is great for the skin too and there’s no better way to apply it than by spraying it! I like to use it to dilute essential oils. These are designed for cooking though so I tried it in a new egg dish and it worked fabulously! I really love this recipe:
“Touch of Mexican” Egg Dish
5 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1 1/2 t. dry mustard
1/4 cup softened butter
2 cups shredded cheese
4 oz. can diced green chilies
1 c. cottage cheese
Beat eggs, beat in flour, baking powder and dry mustard. Add shredded cheese, cottage cheese, softened butter and diced chilies. Spray round/ deep casserole dish with olive oil and pour egg mixture in. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until brown.
I got this recipe from one of my favorite mom mentors at my MOPS group. She brought this dish in to share at one of our meetings and everyone was asking her for the recipe! She said it reheats well and I was skeptical because reheated eggs just sounds really gross to me but she was right! This dish actually makes great leftovers! And the Bertolli Olive Oil Spray kept the eggs from sticking to the bottom of my glass dish.
