I have three kids. My oldest is a 10 year old boy and I also have two girls, age 8 and 6. Like most families with more than one child, clothing and other items are passed down to get the most use out of them and to save money. At the start of the school year we label all our new coats, backpacks, water bottles, some school supplies and more. Instead of buying labels with three different names, I have them made with just our last name. Not only does this save money on labels but when an item gets passed down to another child in our family, the label stays the same and they avoid the hand-me-down stigma.
The key to making this work is choosing high quality labels like Stick 2 Me. They make customized durable, waterproof identification labels in a wide variety of prints and patterns which brings me to my second tip for making this method work. I always choose a gender neutral label. My oldest two kids wear the same size but my son passes his sweatshirts down to my youngest daughter. She loves the sporty look but might not appreciate an overtly “boy” label.
I chose the Peas Collection which features black, white and grey designs with dots. There are 3 packages to choose from or you can pick your own with a minimum of 6 sheets. I like the variety that the packages offer. The labels come in a nicely designed booklet that I always keep handy — I need labels throughout the year, not just when school starts and I love having quick access to these rather than trying to label with a marker.
This label looks a lot nicer than the name I originally scribbled on the top of the lid. It holds up through washings too! We used to lose a lot of our water bottles at sports practices and games but having them labeled helps my forgetful kids get them returned by their helpful coaches and teammates.
My kids are also known for taking of their coat or sweatshirt at recess and forgetting to pick it up. Having it labeled prevents confusion when claiming from lost & found since there are certain styles that are popular and worn by many kids at school. Now we know which ones are ours. Stick 2 Me labels last through laundering and stay put so you never have to re-label.
Stick 2 Me was created by Annie Nadeau, a busy mom of 2. She personally illustrates the designs which are recreated using state-of-the-art technology with superior inks on these high quality labels. You can find out more and order yours at www.stick2me.net.
