There’s something about magnets that people are literally drawn to. It’s mesmerizing how they work and can be relaxing to play with. Blocks by Speks is a new “desk toy” for adults. Each one is a mono-chromatic set of mini magnetic building blocks that satisfyingly click together into eye pleasing shapes.
Each Blocks by Speks piece is packed with fourteen rare-earth magnets inside each block. There are four color spectrum sets available in either beam or bracket shapes. Each set contains 9 blocks (3 in each shade) and sells for $29.95. It comes with a 12 page inspiration guide and a handy carrying bag.
My 11 year old son was really fascinated with the grey set we got and wonders why they are for adults. Honestly, they are perfect for a little bit older kids too, especially ones that are prone to fidgeting. These blocks are a great stress-reliever and can be used to build again and again. The small size and convenient carrying pouch allow them to be played with anytime, anywhere.
Jackson used the instruction booklet to build each of the suggested designs, plus a few of his own! This set comes in a cube shape and it took him awhile to figure out how to put it back together so that the magnets would hold it together. It’s a really neat toy!
Speks products can be found at www.getspeks.com and 3,000+ U.S. retailers, including Brookstone, Barnes & Noble, and the Guggenheim Store.
About Speks
Speks are made by Retrospective Goods, LLC which was formed by the guy behind Buckyballs, with the aim of inspiring, enlightening, and entertaining. In 2009, Rolling Stone named Buckyballs “Toy of the Year.” In 2011, People Magazine called them the year’s biggest trend. By 2012, after a regulatory battle with the CPSC and millions sold, Buckyballs were discontinued at the height of their popularity. In 2017, the founders of Buckyballs and Zen Magnets teamed up to develop a smaller and totally compliant version of the product: Speks. Using the same Rare Earth magnetic technology as Buckyballs and Zen Magnets, Speks allows customers to defeat dullness while mashing, shaping, and sculpting. Now, the Speks line of desk toys also includes Super Speks and Blocks bySpeks.
