I’m already thinking ahead to the holidays. My kids are getting older and starting to outgrow toys. There’s one “toy” though that many kids never seem to outgrow: Lego. All three of my kids (ages 9, 7, and 5) love building with Lego bricks, especially my 9 year old son. I always like to buy creative things to keep my kids busy during winter break. These brick build books by Warren Elsemore from Barron’s will make the perfect gift. Warren Elsmore is a world-renowned LEGO modeler and the best-selling author of Brick City, Brick Wonders, Brick Flicks, Brick Vehicles, and Brick History.
Brick Builds Cars and Trucks and Brick Builds Animals each contain 40 clever and creative ideas to make from classic Lego. Here’s a peek inside Brick Builds Animals:
Not only does this page show you exactly which pieces you’ll need to build a giraffe, but it also has some fun facts about the animal! I love the way this combines factual knowledge with creative building skills.
Here’s a peek inside Brick Builds Cars and Trucks:
The layout of the book is exactly the same except instead of animals, it shows you have to build vehicles and offers some cool facts about each one. The books contain step by step directions with visuals to make it easy to understand. Many of the projects use fewer than 100 bricks so you don’t need a ton to get started.
We have several large bins of Lego from sets that have broken up over the years. My kids do play with them freestyle and come up with their own creations but my oldest particularly loves building by following directions. I secretly love this because I know it’ll pay off for his future wife when it comes to putting together new furniture or toys for my grandkids on Christmas Eve.
These books make the perfect gift for any brick lover and come at a good price point too! Only $13.99 each! Visit www.barronsbooks.com for more info.
