We’ve been doing a lot of work out in our yard so that we can really enjoy it. Our latest project was installing a new patio and fire pit. There’s something wonderful about sitting around a fire, roasting marshmallows and enjoying each other’s company in the evening. But there’s nothing more annoying than mosquitos when you are outdoors trying to enjoy yourself at dusk. Rather than exposing ourselves to chemicals to ward off these pests, we’re using BugBand products, including wristbands. Geraniol, the active ingredient, is all-natural and safe for the entire family. It has been tested to be more effective at repelling bugs such as mosquitoes, flies, gnats, no-see-ums and fleas than Citronella.
BugBand insect repellent is available in several forms:
Wristbands: The vapors from the plastic BugBand wristband form a protective shield, keeping insects (including mosquitoes, flies, gnats, no-see-ums and fleas) a safe distance away. While many repellents are easily diluted or rinsed off with swimming or perspiration, the wristband will keep working for up to 120 hours. It is packaged in an innovative reusable plastic “pod” which can be used to store and seal the wristband between uses to preserve the active life of the product. The plastic band is designed with a patented break-away strap that snaps if it becomes entangled. It can also be fastened to belt loops, hatbands, strollers, pet collars and anywhere else pests can be a problem.Several wristbands can also be strung together to create a longer band. A good choice for recreational and lighter-duty applications, the BugBand wristband comes in multiple colors, including dark green, light green, blue, yellow, red, pink and glow-in-the-dark. It has a suggested retail price of $4.95. A family pack is also available that offers fourbands — each in its own “pod” — for the price of three, $14.95.
Pump Spray: Perfect for when you need more heavy-duty protection, BugBand spray lotion does not contain any propellants, but relies on a highly effective metered pump sprayer to dispense a fine mist over the area to be treated. By spraying the BugBand liquid directly on clothing or skin, the Geraniol vapors form a protective barrier to deter blood-sucking insects from biting. It is ideal for use around the ankles, wrist or neck, where insects tend to invade clothing. Use once for hours of insect protection. The 6-ounce BugBand pump spray has a suggested retail price of $6.95; a travel-size 3-ounce bottle is also available for $4.95.
Towelettes: The BugBand towelette is a handy, easy-to-use method of applying Geraniol insect repellent. The 6-by-8-inch pretreated towelettes are available in 2-, 15- and 40-count containers and a 50-count pegable display. Easy to use, safe and effective, the towelettes allow for exact application of Geraniol lotion on exposed skin. They are ideal for using around the face or neck without worrying about over-applying. The BugBand 15-count towelette dispenser has a suggested retail price of $6.79 (40-count: $11.95). BugBand towelettes are also available in a foil two-pack for $.99.
Diffuser: BugBand’s diffuser distributes Geraniol vapors via a battery-powered indoor-outdoor diffuser, perfect for patios, soccer games and everything in between. The diffuser protects up to 300 square feet, and each cartridge of Geraniol beads provides up to 120 hours of protection. The diffuser can be sealed after each use to protect the active life of the cartridge. The BugBand Diffuser retails for $19.95, includes one long-lasting cartridge of Geraniol beads, and runs on three AA batteries (not included). A package of six replacement cartridges is available for $16.95.
Be Prepared® Insect Repellent Kit: Officially licensed by the Boy Scouts of America, BugBand’s Be Prepared® Insect Repellent Kit contains two levels of insect protection for your next outdoor outing. Blue and glow-in-the-dark wristbands provide long lasting, light duty protection from mosquitoes, flies, gnats, no-see-ums and fleas. Additionally, each kit contains four two-packs of BugBand towelettes, which increase the level of protection with a more concentrated application of Geraniol lotion. When applied directly to the skin, this lotion also acts as a tick repellant. Suggested retail price: $12.95.
BugBand Geraniol repellent is also available in commercial applications, including bead bags, dumpster deodorant, playground/grounds granular insect repellent, and livestock bedding treatment. For more information, visit www.bugband.net.
We prefer the wristbands because they’re the easiest to use and I prefer not applying anything on my children’s skin when I don’t have to because they tend to be super sensitive. That being said, the spray still works well when applied to clothing which is nice. I like having options, especially chemical-free ones!
