I am so blessed to be able to experience the arts with my children. I always look forward to special time with each of my children, taking them to see different musicals at The Paramount Theater in Seattle. Tonight was my youngest child’s turn and it was SO.MUCH.FUN. Parker is the type of child that pretty much always has fun. She’s happy, easy going and finds joy in everything. Cinderella has always been her favorite princess so it was fitting that her turn for one-on-one time with mom landed on Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Parker’s favorite color is blue. I’m not sure which came first, the love of the color of Cinderella’s dress or the love of Cinderella because her dress is blue but tonight her love for Cinderella lived on despite the fact that Cinderella never wore a blue dress in this show. It did not go unnoticed however!
I am always blown away by the talent in STG Presents shows. The music, the dancing, the singing, the special effects and the sets are all top notch and Cinderella was no exception. The story line varied a little from the traditional tale but that made it even more fun. The message was about kindness and was not lost on my four year old.
You know you’ve seen something special when your child thinks magic is involved and you’re almost convinced it’s true. When the fairy godmother changes Cinderella’s dress from rags to riches your jaw will drop. It’s a stunning transformation that happens right before your eyes and you’re left wondering how on earth she did it!
The Paramount is very kid friendly. They even have special cushions to use as boosters that make it more comfortable for your child and able to see the show better. When Cinderella’s glass slippers were first shown on stage you could see every little girl in the theater sit up a little straighter to catch a glimpse! It was so adorable! They also have grilled cheese sandwiches available in the lobby — a favorite of Parker!
There’s also an intermission for a stretch and potty break. As you can see, she was still all smiles during “half time”. Before the show I showed her the orchestra pit and she asked to see it again during intermission. She kept asking me about the “magicians” and I finally figured out she meant “musicians”. I’m not sure who had more fun but it was definitely a memorable experience for both of us.
There are still shows left (last night was opening night) and it is SO worth seeing!
The show will run through March 2nd. Get a sneak peek below:
“With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA combines the story’s classic elements – glass slippers, pumpkin, and a beautiful ball along with some surprising twists. More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn’t let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion and forgiveness. She longs to escape the drudgery of her work at home and instead work to make the world a better place. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams too.”
