This post has come at such a great time for me in my life. If I have ever needed comfort and joy, it is now. Twittermoms and Kleenex are asking us to share what brings comfort and joy to our lives and how we share that with others.
My husband has set out for his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. For some reason, this tour has really hit me hard. My husband is constantly gone since he flies in the Air Force, but, like I said, this one has gotten me going. I adore my husband and it kills me that he is going to miss so much about our kids. Our littlest is only 8 months. He will miss his first words, walking, 1st birthday, etc… He has missed my son’s birthday, holidays and will miss my birthday as well. I just know how much he is such a good influence on our kids and how much they adore him too, so I guess that’s why it is hard for me.
So, I have really appreciated anything that has brought me comfort and joy in this time of need. My neighbors have volunteered to take my daughter to school. This is a HUGE help! Otherwise, I lug 3 kids out in the cold by myself after getting up at the crack of dawn to do it. It’s not the easiest task walking in with all 3 of them and 2 of them being on my hip. They haven’t stopped there though. One of their sons comes over once/week for an hour to volunteer his time and do whatever I need done (mainly just play with the kids). This allows me to make dinner, clean or whatever.
I have great friends that have visited many times to keep me company, give me help or just listen to me while I talk. This is comforting. It’s also comforting knowing others that are going through the same situation as myself.
To top it off, my loving husband has hired a sitter that comes 2 times per week so I can work on the site, get chores done, go to the Dr., run errands, or do whatever! He is keeping my sanity!
For everything else- little things like a cup of hot chocolate, a warm shower, a clean bed and good food all bring me comfort and joy. I love to bring comfort and joy to others by doing nice things for them, volunteering my time, baking for them, cooking for them or just being someone to listen to them.
What are some ways you bring comfort and joy to others or how have others brought comfort and joy to you? We’d love to hear!
