It’s that time of year when germs are going around, kids are getting sick and parents are trying to avoid it at all costs. Chances are though, that someone will at least get the sniffles. A good way to encourage kids to wipe their nose (rather than use their sleeve!) is to give them little pocket packs of tissues. The Dollar Tree has Toy Story themed ones that come in a 6 pack for a buck! You can stick one in their back pack, one in your purse etc. so you’ll always have them handy.
The best way to prevent the spread of germs of course is by hand washing. To practice proper hand washing, use soap and warm water and lather up for at least 20 seconds. Make sure to teach kids to get in between their fingers, the front and backs of their hands and their wrists. Anti-bacterial soap is not necessary. Method makes a fun foaming soap for kids. It comes in a Mickey or Minnie Mouse shaped bottle and foams as it’s dispensed. You can find it at Target for around $4.49. It’s important to wash before eating and after sneezing/wiping your nose, touching pets etc. A hand sanitizer is perfect when hand washing isn’t convenient. Hand washing will help prevent the spread of germs and hopefully keep your family healthy!
When the kids are feeling under the weather, what do you give them? My first thought is chicken soup and orange juice. My kids like both but they get a lot more excited when they’re Disney themed. When they’re sick, all I want to do is cheer them up a little. Campbell’s Princess Chicken Noodle Soup (available at Walmart & Kroger stores) is sure to do the trick for my daughter. As for my son, he loves O.J. and thinks the Donald Duck-themed 100% orange juice from Citrus World is the best. I also try to keep my kids healthy with daily Disney Gummie Vitamins which they love.
What are some ways you’ve found to keep your child feeling better when they’re sick?
