Hand wash whenever you can- Really, it’s not as bad as you think, there are great products that make this easier, and at Freshpair Soak is one of them! Its simple no rinse solution gets things done without multiple rinses, which is really where the hassle is! If you feel you need a more “thorough” clean I just soak mine twice. It uses a bit more solution, but when the water runs clear after the first time, the second is really just for scent.
The reason hand washing is so good for your intimates is that it avoids the deadliest thing to delicate fibers—heat. In today’s intimate section you will find elastics and microfibers and stretch laces, these all have one thing in common—spandex. Spandex is damaged by heat, which is why you get those little clear threads popping out of your fabric after too many washings with your sheets on high! So if you can’t take the time to hand wash, at least put your intimates in a lingerie bag, wash on cold cycle, and line dry or flat dry. That’s right, no dryer! You may wait a little longer before you can wear it, but while towels and sheets appreciate the heat and fluff of the dryer, your bra most definitely will not.
Pack for a longer shelf life- Most bras today are molded cups, so when storing them don’t do “fold and flip” with the cups. Bra foam and padding is pretty flexible, except for when inverted like this, it will develop a crinkled surface of deep wrinkles that we call “orange peeling”. Here are some examples of molded cup bras you should not fold and flip :

Give your Bra a Break!- We mentioned spandex before, and just like it doesn’t like heat it doesn’t like excessive wear. The elastics and materials with spandex in your bra are all designer to stretch with your movement and then RETURN to their original size. Well guess what, this takes work, and when you work that same bra day in and day out you’re literally working your elastic to death. So never wear the same bra more than two days in a row and you won’t be wondering why it doesn’t fit the same as it used to.
