Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize just how crazy this school year would be. I’m juggling several work from home jobs, 2 kids in different school with another kiddo still at home plus sports, homework, housework and social calendars. It seems we’re always trying to throw together a shopping list/meal plan at the last minute. I’m lucky because the Hubs is great about helping with (or doing!) the grocery shopping and often cooks several of the week’s meals. With football practice we need meals we can make in a hurry and since I’m often up late working and not much of a morning person, having hearty and FAST meals for the morning is essential — otherwise it’s cereal everyday. Schwan’s to the rescue!
Schwan’s sent us a week’s worth of breakfasts and dinners. Some we used the traditional way and some we used with our own spin. Many of the breakfast items provided more than one serving for our family. Find out more about the items we tried below:
BREAKFAST:
- Baked Cinnamon French Toast Sticks — these golden cinnamon-y french toast sticks were probably my kids favorite out of the breakfast items. They taste great but on days where I was running behind, these were out because they’re best heated in the oven and that takes time to pre-heat. Thats ok though because the Mini Pancakes were their next fave.
- Mini Pancakes — These babies only take a few seconds to heat up in the microwave and not only do they smell delicious, they taste great too. I have my kids a tiny dish of syrup to dip them in and they gobbled them up.
- Toastwich Bacon, Egg & Cheese — Mom and Dad’s favorite! Just toast these puppies in the toaster then grab it to go! I love the buttery golden crust and all of the yummy goodness inside. My 6 year old said they were too cheesy. Not my kid. There’s no such thing as too much cheese in my book!
- English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich — A family favorite and very similar to McDonald’s breakfast sandwhiches, we actully ate these for a quick dinner one night!
- Blueberry Mufin Starters — We baked up these yummy blueberry muffins after dinner one night and then enjoyed them for snacks AND breakfast the next morning! Muffins for breakfast always impress my kids.
DINNER:
- Chicken Alfredo Bianco Flatbread Thin Crust Pizza — I’ll admit, I ate both of these by myself. I think they are more suitable for lunch or even as appetizers! They come in a rectangle shape and can be cut up into small pieces perfect for parties. I ate a whole one for lunch. Twice. And I’d do it again! I really like the thin crust and the flavor!
- Lasagna Roll-ups — You need your own sauce for these but I prefer it that way because I’m as bad as the kids and don’t like “chunks” in my sauce. These are really easy to make and serve with some garlic bread and a salad. A put-together dinner in no time flat!
- Italian Style Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast— These are really good white meat chicken stuffed with cheese. They’re much like you’d get in a restaurant. We ate them plain but I think they’d be really good with a sauce over the top and some pasta on the side.
- Beef Pot Pie — Not my kids’ favorite but they are super picky. Hubs and I appreciated these with the chunks of beef and veggies baked inside of a golden crust — Perfect for fall!
- Six Cheese Tortellini — a Schwan’s family favorite because they are so easy to make, versatile and just plain yummy. We usually just spoon a red sauce over these but you can do a lot of different things with them. An excellent recipe for the six cheese tortellini can be found here.
Do yourself a favor and order some meals from Schwan’s to have on hand when life in general becomes overwhelming. It happens to me at least once a week and I love having these easy meals to fall back on. They save so much time and can really take the pressure and stress off on super busy days. Not only that, but I never hear any complaints from my family when I serve Schwan’s which is more than I can say for my homemade meals! PLUS, these meals often save us from running out for expensive take-out or fast food so while Schwan’s may be a little more than your normal groceries (at least for us) they actually save us in the long run.
Our freezer isn’t particularly large and it was mostly empty when these items arrived but they did take up our entire freezer. Unless you have a second freezer, keep that in mind when ordering! Most things stack up nicely as they’re packaged in boxes but they do tend to take up a bit of freezer space!
