My mom has eaten a gluten free diet for several years now and since she’s often at our house, our children have become very aware of what is gluten free and what is not. It seems that gluten sensitivities and allergies are much more common than they used to be. Or perhaps the medical field is more aware of the problem and quicker to diagnose it. Whatever the case, it’s nice that brands are offering up gluten free products for those in need.
Freschetta, one of our favorite frozen pizza brands recently introduced a gluten-free pizza to their line. My kids and I were excited to have a little pizza party today with grandma. I knew we wouldn’t eat two whole pizzas so we decided to share the gluten-free cheese pizza. Made with fresh ingredients and 100% real premium blend of cheeses including mozzarella, fontina, parmesan and asagio with a flavorful pizza sauce our bellies were happy.
I’m not sure why I was so surprised but if I didn’t know the pizza was gluten-free beforehand, I probably never would have suspected it. The crust was thin but delicious. If anything, the texture is slightly different than regular crust. We ate the entire thing. I asked my mom what she thought of it compared to the other gluten-free varieties she’s tried and she said it was one of the best!
Freschetta gluten-free pizza is certified by the Celiac Sprue Association. It can be found int he freezer aisles at local grocers and retails for $9.99. Regular pizzas were on sale for $3.99. The price difference seems rather high to me but since it’s a specialty, maybe it warrants the price. Still, it will be our go-to brand when gluten-free is necessary because it’s a great product!
I had to go to two stores to find it but since it’s fairly new, I’m sure it will become more available. The gluten-free pizza is also available in Signature Pepperoni however, only the 4 Cheese Medley was available at my local store.
