Spring is just around the corner and so are these amazing craft ideas. Do you have a kid that loves crafts? Nurture their creative genes with these clever ideas for spring.
Coffee Filter Butterflies
You will need a coffee filter (the basket type, not the v-shaped type), a clothespin, small googly eyes, white glue, markers, pipe cleaner, and scissors.
- Glue the two googly eyes to the clasping part of the clothespin, draw a mouth with the marker, then set aside to dry.
- Encourage your child to decorate the coffee filter however they’d like. The longer they hold the marker down, the farther the ink will spread. Let the filter dry.
- Once dry, fold the filter accordion style, then pinch it in the middle to clasp this area within the clothespin.
- Cut the pipe cleaner and bend it into a v-shape for the antennae. Clip it in with the wings.
- Make as many butterflies, with different personalities and faces, as your child wants. Then hang them up or pin them on a wall to be displayed.
Peanut Butter Bird Feeders
This is a fun craft that requires supplies that you already have lying around the house. You will need an empty toilet paper roll, bird seeds, and peanut butter.
- Spread peanut butter on a toilet paper roll.
- Scatter bird seeds on a dinner plate, then roll the peanut butter cardboard on them.
- Hang from a branch for the birds to enjoy.

Tissue Paper Blossoms
Bring in the spring season with this beautiful blossoming tree. You will need colored construction paper, a tree template, pink and white tissue paper, glue, and scissors.
- Cut out a simple tree template using brown construction paper. Glue the tree onto a piece of white construction paper.
- Cut the tissue paper into small squares, about 1”x1” and encourage your child to crumple them into blossom shapes.
- Place drops of glue on the branches of your tree and let your child place the tissue paper blossoms accordingly.
- Have your child cut slits into a strip of green construction paper so it looks like grass, then glue the paper at the bottom of the tree.
Colorful Melted Crayons
This experimental craft is fun for kids and parents. You will need a canvas board, crayons, and a hair dryer.
- Let your child collect all the colors of crayons he/she likes from around the house or your designated crayon box.
- Take the crayons to the canvas board. You can use neat rows for a cool color gradient or place them sporadically all over the board.
- Take a hair dryer and let your child point them at the crayons. They should melt and start to form color lines that drip down the canvas board.
- This craft can get a little messy so make sure to put some plastic sheets or old blankets down.
