Road trips are a chance to create long-lasting family memories, but those of us with children know how difficult they can be too. It happens every time: “Are we there yet?” Cooped up in the backseat, kids get impatient. It’s understandable. But road trips don’t have to be boring! Car games are a great way to keep you and your little ones entertained for the long road ahead. Here are some of my favorites to play.
- My Cows!
This game is perfect for a countryside road trip. Each time you drive past a herd of cows, each player should yell out “my cows!” Everyone keeps track of how many herds of cows they’ve called out and the player with the most herds wins. Careful though, if you drive over a bridge, somebody can “no more cows,” taking away everyone’s points except their own!
- Spot the Car
Challenge your family’s car lovers to spot as many different models of cars they can. Better yet, make a specific list of uncommon cars to make the game extra tricky.
- Road Trip Scavenger Hunt
Create a list of common road trip sites – RVs, stoplights, cows, motorcycles, construction zones, etc. Tell your little ones to keep their eyes peeled along the road, and the first one to cross off every site wins! With so many interesting things along the highway, your kids won’t want to look away from this game.
To play these games and more, check out these printable car games available at The Zebra. There are word searches, pictograms, and I Spy lists for kids of all ages. Having the printables will help you keep track of points. There are also printables for non-road trip games like Hangman and Bingo. This next road trip will be a blast!
