Thanks to COVID, many of us are looking for other ways to celebrate Halloween that stray from the traditional holiday events. You might be forgoing Halloween parties and even skipping Trick or Treating this year. If you’re like me, you probably feel like you need to make up for these losses for your children. The good news is that you’ll likely be spending more quality time with your kids and they’ll be just fine.
Some people I know are having a family costume contest using only materials that can be found in the home. Others are creating scavenger hunts for their kids instead of Trick or Treating. I love some of the creative ideas I am seeing for alternative ways to celebrate. Below are a few products that might be fun additions to your family Halloween festivities:
Lehi Mills Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix — You can’t have Halloween without sweet treats! A cookie mix is a great compromise between store bought and homemade. You get the experience of making something without the hassle of baking from scratch. The kids might even be able to do it themselves! The flavors of sweet and buttery pumpkin combined with melty chocolate chips give you that great fall flavor and will fill your kitchen with a delicious fall aroma.
Magformers Camping Adventure Set — If you’ve got little builders in your family, they will love this magnetic building set with a camping adventure theme. Magnetic squares and triangles are used to build campfires and tents. A little boy and dog figurine, Mason and Mutt, will give kids an opportunity to create their own scenes and stories. This set retails for $39.99 and is made for ages 3+
Thames & Kosmos EXIT game — For older kids (age 10+), this unique game offers a fun experience for the family or small group of friends (up to 4 players). The game is modeled after Escape Rooms but is played in the comfort of your own home. Your team starts out trapped in an imaginary room or locked up somewhere. To escape you must solve a series of riddles and puzzles. Each solved problem unlocks the door to reveal a new riddle until you’ve escaped to freedom! These games have a creepy vibe and are perfect for Halloween! Play some spooky music in the background and turn down the lights to set a spooky ambiance. There’s a wide variety of themes available. The games are only meant to be played once. They retail for $14.95 each and are really fun! My kids love them!
Happy Halloween Mini Tin’s Thinking Putty — Whether you’re handing out treats to trick or treaters, looking for small gifts for goodie bags or just wanting some fun candy alternatives for your own kids, these Halloween Thinking Putty Mini Tins from Crazy Aaron’s are perfect! This is our favorite brand of putty because they have such a fun selection of specialty formulas. These ones include Ectoplasm which glows a speckled green, Jack O’Lantern which glows bright orange and Trick which changes from purple to green and glows solid green in the dark.
These are just a few ideas for your family Halloween festivities. What are your plans for Halloween this year?
