A screensaver uses 100 watts of power, compared with just 10 watts in sleep mode. Consider this: a company with 5,000 computers that have screensavers running 20 hours per week uses emissions totaling 750,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, more than 5,800 pounds of sulfur oxide, and 1,500-plus pounds of nitrogen oxide per year.
