Treveller are going into the peak in Carpathian mountians
Oh, the great outdoors. There really is nothing like stepping outside into the fresh air. But it can be hard to find time to spend outside. If you’re busy with your job, kids or any other activities that you have to finish, you may want to consider making getting outdoors one of your New Year’s resolutions.
Don’t think that spending more time outside means you have to venture to sprawling national parks every six months. Going outdoors can be as simple as just taking a five-minute walk. And the benefits of heading outdoors are enormous. Being outside can help improve your mental health, according to a University of Michigan study. But not just that. It’s also been linked to lower depression, less perceived stress and enhanced well-being. And that’s just the start. Discover just how you can kick start your New Year’s resolution and get outside more.
Go for Walk
One of the easiest ways to get outside is the most simple. Take a walk when you have free time. Just five minutes can give you some benefits. Maybe you take an hour long stroll around your neighborhood or maybe you just park far away in the lot at work. Whatever you can work is fine. If you want to stick with it, start small.
Start Running
If you’d like to take it up a notch, consider taking up running or jogging. You’ll still see everything, but will get getting in a great cardio workout to boot. Start small. Maybe start running for five minutes and then walking for another three minutes.
Take a Hike
This can be a more strenuous activity or just a longer walk, depending on what you’d like to experience. If you’re looking to get out in the wild, this is probably one of the best ways to do just that. There’s nothing like the feeling of looking down from the top of a very tall mountain after you’ve spent the last few hours sweating and straining to get there.
Go Camping
This one is especially a great idea if you have a family, but single people can enjoy this one too. You could consider spending a night or two sleeping out under the stars. If you really want to immerse yourself in nature, this is a great way to do it. It will cost you a lot up front since camping gear can get pricey. But you can consider borrowing from a friend, buying used gear or even renting some. Once you’ve got your gear, you’ll have fun researching your different destinations. Maybe just head somewhere that’s an hour from your house or even fly across the country to spend a night at one of our nation’s beautiful national parks.
Take Up Archery
If you’re searching for a fun, new hobby, you may want to consider archery. It’s a fun challenge, for sure. You’ll get in some much-needed upper body exercise while you work on your hand-eye coordination. You also can expect to improve your balance since you have to hold your body in a specific way to make sure your hit your intended target. This is great for someone who wants to be in the great outdoors, but who may prefer working up a sweat in a gym or inside. You also can expect some cardio benefits. You can walk as many as five miles during a single round or archery. Best of all, you won’t even notice as you make those miles count.
