Happy 4th of July everyone! My girls got in the spirit of the holiday with an Independence Day themed 4th of July Gramma in a Box. They love the candy crafts and cookie decorating that are conveniently put together and sent to them each month. This subscription service comes with everything you need to make 2 candy crafts plus one cookie decorating kit for just $20. It’s a pretty great deal considering the cost of the supplies to make these items plus the time it would take to gather them.
Gramma Terry is brilliant. She comes up with the themed cookies and crafts each month, puts together detailed instructions and bonus tips. She started doing this for her own grandkids who didn’t live in the same state. She’s send them these boxes and they’d do them “together” via Skype.
The contents of each box are always very organized. The directions are easy to follow so it’s clear which ingredients go with which project. The kit always comes with three mini tubes of frosting, more than enough to decorate the cookies which usually come with at least 2 different shaped and sized cookies plus sprinkles, colored sugar etc to decorate them with. Often the toppings are unique and not something you’d likely find in your typical grocery store.
The first project in this month’s 4th of July themed box was Sparkler Pretzel Rods. These are one of my favorite snacks and I loved the little mini version of these! You dip the pretzels in the melting chocolate then sprinkle with red, white and blue sprinkles. Easy, but cute and delicious too!
The second project uses the leftover melting chocolate from the first project. This is noted in the directions on the first project so you won’t accidentally use up all the chocolate. For the Gold Peanut Bites you put a pretzel square into the brown paper cups. Stir the peanuts into the melting chocolate then top each pretzel with a dab. Sprinkle your favorite topping on top to make them festive. I love the tiny red, white and blue stars that came in this month’s box. SO cute!
Always the favorite, cookie decorating comes last. You get to use any leftover ingredients to get creative if you’d like. Gramma gives lots of tips for the cookie decorating and even gives video demonstrations on her social channels! My girls love trying out her techniques!
My oldest daughter was inspired by this month’s box. She made full sized chocolate covered 4th of July pretzel rods for our family get-together and I am sure they will be a hit! She’s a pro at melting chocolate in the microwave and handled the entire project on her own. She learned the skills from Gramma in a Box!
