We rarely have play dates at our house. Honestly, I find them to be stressful. It’s not that I don’t want my kids to have fun and spend time with their friends but I feel pressure to have the house extra clean, fun projects planned for them to do and good snacks for them to eat. Gramma in a Box is the perfect solution to 2 out of 3 of my concerns so all I’d have to do is get the house extra clean. I suppose that’s a good thing.
Gramma in a Box is a subscription service for kids. Each month members receive a specially prepared box including cookies to decorate complete with frosting and sprinkles, plus two easy candy crafts. You’ll get all the supplies you need to make up to 20 treats to share for only $20 per month. You can also purchase a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription for slightly reduced prices. If you went out and gathered the supplies for projects like this it would take a lot of time and probably cost a lot more too!
Each month’s box has a theme and everything is neatly packaged in a box with everything needed to complete three projects. The only extra supplies you might need are things you most likely already have such as a spoon, knife, toothpicks, microwave safe bowl and paper plates. It comes with step by step directions for each project including tips from Gramma Terry. This month’s box was St.Patrick’s Day themed.
The first project was Shamrock Pretzel Pops. You make these by heating up the melting chocolate in a bowl in the microwave, arranging the pretzels into a shamrock shape with a stick in the middle then adding a bit of the chocolate so they stick together. You can also add some sprinkles. Sometimes a couple of the pretzels get broken but we’ve always been able to still piece the projects together since the chocolate sort of acts as glue.
I think they came out really cute! The next project used the melting chocolate from project number 1. Always make sure to do the projects in order because of this! You may need to reheat your chocolate a bit. Project number 2 was Crispy Pot O’Gold Cups. Just mix the crispy rice cereal into the remaining melting chocolate then divide it into even spoonfuls into each of the paper cups. Then add the little edible bits of gold to them.
See how fun and easy these projects are? Gramma Terry always comes up with fun new projects each month that my kids really enjoy. Their favorite part is always project number 3 — cookie decorating! The kit always comes with 3 different colors of frosting and several different “topping” options.
They love getting creative with the leftovers from the other projects — there’s always plenty of sprinkles, colored sugar or tiny candies left to add to the cookie decorating experience. If you check out Gramma Terry on Facebook or Instagram she shows some neat cookie decorating ideas that you can try to replicate with your project.
This month’s cookie shapes included pots of gold and two different sized shamrocks. There’s usually enough to split evenly between two people (I think one of my kids ate a cookie before I took this photo so one of the larger shamrocks is missing) . My girls love doing these together every month but I bet they’d love doing them even more with a friend on a playdate! Cleanup is really quick and easy, especially since I didn’t have to make the cookies or the frosting! As a busy mom, I really love this subscription service — it’s a great value and my kids look forward to it every month.
You can subscribe with an auto debit program for only $20 per month and the first box is only $10. You can also purchase an individual box if you just want to give it a try! Order by the 3rd of the month to recieve that month’s box. You can find out more at www.grammainabox.com. You can also visit Gramma in a box on Facebook and Instagram for videos of each project and more!
