Groovy Girls, a line of unique, soft 16″ dolls from specialty toy manufacturer The Manhattan Toy Company are celebrating their Sweet 16. They invited us to help celebrate this birthday by providing us with party supplies, activity kits and treat bags and dolls for each of our guests. The timing was perfect because last week was my 5 year old daughter’s graduation from Pre-K to Kindergarten. We invited all of the girls from her class over for a tea party to kick off the summer.
As the girls arrived they each got to pick out their very own Groovy Girls doll. It seemed to me that the girls gravitated to a specific doll and for the most part, didn’t really waiver. I thought that perhaps there would be a little bit of conflict or talks of trading dolls but all of the girls seemed happy with their choice and started playing with them immediately.
It was a nice day so the girls played on picnic blankets. They loved the Groovy Girls Totally Tentastic Tent which has a zippered door and windows that roll up. It’s super cute and the girls loved putting their dolls inside of it.
Then it was time for lunch. The girls loaded their pretty pink plates with PB&J Pocket Sandwiches, fruit skewers, veggie/dip cups, berry “tarts” and lemon cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. While apple juice was served rather than tea, I think the kids enjoyed the little bite sized finger foods along side their dolls.
Next it was time for an activity. Did you know Groovy Girls has a fun selection of craft project designed just for little girls? There are 10 different “Design Your Own” kits to choose from — ALL of them look like so much fun but for our party we chose the Groovy Girls Sparkletastic Jewelry Sets.
We moved to the shade of a tree and got to work on our jewelry. The bracelets and pendants both have a sticky surface when you removed the protective paper from them — no need for glue! Decorate your jewelry with a selection of 8 different rhinestone shapes then sprinkle with glitter (6 colors are included in the kit) For the necklaces, choose from 3 different colors of cording and add beads if wish. This kit comes with a purple work mat to keep things tidy. The glitter part can get pretty messy but we found that the mat can remove glitter from the skin just by wiping your skin with it!
We had so much fun with these kits and while the girls could pretty much decorate on their own, I do suggest this project be done together with an adult. The rhinestone storage wheel was difficult to open as the directions didn’t have any indication how to get the rhinestones out. There is a small circle in the lid which we tried popping off before someone figured out that there was a small notch in it so that when turned to the correct position would release it for access to the gems inside. After that it was a breeze. I liked how each rhinestone was contained in it’s own little compartment with easy access to each one by rotating the lid. There are way more than enough gems for completing all 6 pieces of jewelry. The vials of glitter were easy enough to open but hard for the girls to pour without spilling everywhere. A sprinkle type cap would have been better suited. All in all, this project was a blast!
This is a picture of the girls with their dolls wearing their “bling”. Each of the girls took home their doll, jewelry kit and a tote bag which included a slap bracelet, pencil, tattoo and headband. One of the parents also printed and put together a Groovy Girls coloring book!
If our party guests are anything like my own girls, I’m sure they are still loving on their new dolls. My youngest has been toting hers everywhere, along with the tent AND the bed we received for hosting the party.

As a parent, I personally love that these dolls are age appropriate. Their outfits are fun yet modest. The accessories that are available to go with the dolls really up the fun factor. The Groovy Girls Royally Ritz Bed is great because the blanket stays attached at the bottom making it easy to tuck the doll in without every losing the pieces to the toy. The pillow is attached too! In addition to the tent and several styles of beds, you’ll find outfits, a sleeping bag, car, chair, bathtub and more! All of these extras offer different ways to experience and enjoy the dolls.
