An estimated 14.5 % of new mothers have postpartum depression, a serious mental condition that includes all of the symptoms of major depression. Unfortunately, these deadly symptoms are often dismissed as “baby blues.”
The Melanie Blocker Stokes MOTHERS Act would expand research into the causes of and treatments for postpartum depression; provide information and education to increase awareness of postpartum depression; and make service grants available to individuals suffering from postpartum depression and their families.
To get involved and help combat postpartum depression, we encourage you to contact your local senators who have not yet co-sponsored the MOTHERS Act.
