After a busy weekend it was so nice to come home, pop some popcorn and sit down to watch a movie with the family. As the kids have gotten older it’s harder to find a movie we can all enjoy together. My teenager and tween aren’t really into animated movies anymore and my 10 year old is getting to that point too.
We got an advanced copy of Hero Dog: The Journey Home and I knew right away that my youngest would LOVE it because it stars a malamute dog, one of her favorite breeds. I was hopeful that my other kids would enjoy it as well since it wasn’t a cartoon.
This thrilling family-friendly adventure didn’t disappoint. Here’s the official synopsis to tell you what the movie is about without me giving too much away:
Starring Natasha Henstridge (Species), this breathtaking family adventure shows how one animal’s courage can inspire us all. Crossing a lake by boat to return to his family, Royce (Steve Byers), who is blind, is stranded when the boat’s captain suddenly falls ill. To find help, Royce enlists Chinook, a brave malamute, to serve as his seeing-eye dog as they navigate the wilderness. Chinook must protect Royce from treacherous rapids, jagged rocks, and savage mountain lions on their long, heroic journey of survival.
I personally loved the setting of the movie because it reminded me of the Pacific Northwest with beautiful forests, rivers and open water. I also enjoyed the sibling relationships within the movie. I think my kids could relate to the kids in the film.
It was inspiring story with a happy ending that the whole family enjoyed together. In fact, it was awarded the Dove Seal of Approval for All Ages! Hero Dog: The Journey Home comes out on Digital, On Demand and DVD on March 23rd from Lionsgate. The DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $14.98 and might make a fun addition to Easter baskets this year!
