If there’s one thing I wish I had known before my first child was born, it’s the reality of breastfeeding in the first few weeks. Sure, breastfeeding is great for you and your baby. It’s bonding but it can also be very painful, physically. I am currently breastfeeding my third child and I am thankful that I stuck it out in those first few weeks with my first born because breastfeeding truly is wonderful once you get past the initial hard part. Everyone’s experience might not be the same as mine but I think it’s important for expecting mother’s to have realistic expectations about breastfeeding. The truth is, you’ll likely experience some discomfort from engorgement or blocked ducts. You may even develop mastitis, an infection in the breast. There are ways to help ease your discomfort and help you work through it so that you can continue to breastfeed.
Breastfeeding, while a healthy choice for baby as well as yourself, can at times be uncomfortable. To help new mothers experience a more positive breastfeeding experience, Keen created a product called Breast Ease. Breast Ease pads are reusable hypo-allergenic, BPA and PVC free gel pads that can be frozen and used cold to ease discomfort due to engorgement, blocked ducts, mastitis and breast tenderness. They can also be used warm to improve milk flow. The soft surface and contoured shape combined with the unique gel formula that stays flexible when frozen provides instant relief to mothers making them more likely to continue breastfeeding their babies.
Breast Ease Gel Pads come in a two pack and retail for $14.99. I would recommend these to all expecting mothers planning to nurse. Having the tools you need on hand to help make breastfeeding a positive experience is priceless.
