My kids are on spring break. It’s only the second day and I’m already going a little stir crazy. While the kids are content to be glued to their screens all day, I’d prefer to mix things up a bit — literally! I am so glad I saved the Bake My Day Kidstir kit for a little low cost, screen-free spring break entertainment! What is Kidstir you ask? Let me elaborate…..
Kidstir is a unique subscription service for children that can be joined or given as a gift, or you can send one of the single kits if you want to check it out first. Each month, Kidstir will send your child a cooking kit filled with three delicious, nutritious recipes, kid-size cooking tools, games and activities! Kidstir was created by moms with a focus on fresh, nutritious food and hands-on fun. Moms that know that through cooking, children will gain important life skills in the kitchen while creating fun family memories! A Single kit can be purchased without a subscription or choose a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscription. Individual Bake My Day or Taco Truck Fun Kits are also available for only $19.95.
We got the Bake My Day kit which was perfect for spring/Easter. Here’s the description from the website:
Turn your kitchen into an at-home bakery!
Grab your apron and turn up the oven. It’s time to serve up some fresh-baked treats made in your kitchen!
In this kit, you’ll find three recipes for homemade goodies. You’ll also learn all about apples, play a fun foodie game, and make dough art.
For a quick and fancy dessert, make an Easy Apple Tart with your new Mini Rolling Pin. Hosting a bake sale?
Make yummy Bunny Muffins and add Bake Sale Price Tags. Then, use your Super Spatula to mix bread dough and shape it into Crescent Moons.
I love how my oldest and youngest worked together making the Bunny Muffins. They set out all of the ingredients and peeled and shredded the carrots for the muffins.
They took turns with each stuff, adding ingredients and mixing. It was helpful having an older child to read and follow the directions. He even used his math skills using two 1/4 cups instead of a 1/2 cup measuring cup!
The baking time was a little off for the muffins. It could just be my oven but we bake a lot of muffins and I knew that 15-20 minutes was more accurate than the 25 minutes the recipe called for so that I could check on them to make sure they didn’t get over cooked.
I think the muffins came out great! We will definitely be using this recipe again — they were delicious!
Even better than this yummy treat were the proud smiles of these kiddos who worked so well together making them! We can’t wait to make the other two recipes next week for more spring break fun!
Included in our kit was a recipe binder with dividers. I wouldn’t hesitate to order Kidstir kits in the future and I love that we can keep our favorites organized. I love that a subscription isn’t required. We are a very busy family with sports so don’t always have extra time for projects like these but love to do them when we have time.
