We went to a family Halloween party last weekend. It was potluck style for dinner so I signed up to bring my favorite White Chicken Chili and “Spooky Deviled Eggs”. I wanted to do something that my kids could help me with because they always enjoy making things. Easy and inexpensive were also requirements and Spooky Deviled Eggs fit the bill. Here’s how to make them:
SPOOKY DEVILED EGGS
- Put 1 dozen eggs into a large pot and fill with water until the eggs are covered.
- Heat on high until water boils then turn the heat off and cover pot with a lid and let them sit for at least 30 minutes. I usually make these ahead of time then stick them in the fridge to completely cool.
- Peel eggs the cut each one in half lengthwise. Remove the yolks and put into a separate bowl.
- Mix yolks with a couple of spoonfuls of mayo until desired consistency and taste. I add a little bit of mustard to mine.
- Put the mixture into a large ziplock bag and cut off a small corner at the bottom
- Use the bag like a frosting bag to fill your eggs.
- Slice 12 olives in half lengthwise and place one on the center of each egg as a spider “body”
- Slice 12 olives in half lengthwise, then slice them in half again. Slice each piece into half one more time to create 8 “legs” and attach them to body by sticking them into the yolk mixture
My girls had a lot of fun creating the spiders. It was easy enough for a 4 year old and 5 year old and kept them busy for awhile! This was a great alternative to sweets at a party and the guests love them!
